Problem II: Atomism & Holism
| Question: | When you are solving a problem, do you just focus on the learning issues of the problem itself or do you actually solve it from a module or diploma perspective? Why?
|
| Response: | When I am solving a problem, I would rather do it both ways. I would be the one that points out contradiction from another point of view. Let me just elaborate.
If we were to focus on the learning of the issues in the problem itself, it would actually allow us to see it in an atomistic view of things. We would tend to focus on what is on the problem only. Which is good, in a way as this will allow you to stay focus on what you need to know and obtain a good grasp of the topic.
On the other hand, if we were to be too focused on solving it from a module or diploma perspective, we would be inclined to see things in the big picture only and think about every other thing other than focusing on the problem. In this case, it would be very easy for the team to go off track.
In conclusion, I feel that there is a need for us to be able to strike a balance between both of the methods of solving a problem. |
